Beloved,
The fruit of the spirit of TEMPERANCE is the spiritual force inside your born-again spirit which empowers you to control the impulses of the flesh.
The force of TEMPERANCE enables us to turn the other cheek, to eat two cookies instead of 12, to refuse to hear gossip, to refuse to watch certain movies etc.
None of these things happens automatically of course, as we all well know. We have to set our spirits in order to gain ground in controlling the impulses of our flesh. To help you do that say the following confession every day or as often as you like:
“My spirit by the Holy Spirit that’s within me dominates my mind and my flesh.
I have set my WILL, O God, to do Your Will and nothing but Your Will.
With my sharp INTELLECT I reason only with Your Wisdom and Your Word, not the wisdom of this world that comes to nought.
With my EMOTIONS I frown at everything You frown at and smile at everything You smile at.
My IMAGINATION goes after You, and You only, and Your Word only, not the world.
My spirit dominates my flesh. Always. My spirit decides what I see, what I hear, what I smell, what I eat, when and how much of it. My spirit dictates how I act or react, what I feel and how I feel, where I go and how long I am there, what I do, with whom, where, how, why, my attitude and my thoughts, in Jesus name, Amen!”
